The Stay-Puff't Marshmellow Man is a prime example of how older methods of special effects can far surpass CGI.

The Claw?  What's the deal with that one?

Never saw the movie with the Claw, but I'd like to.  And yes the Stay Puft marshmallow man was one of the better effects.  CGI is LAME.

And the rest was stop action photograghy. When I saw Sinbad at the drive-in  as a kid that cyclops drove me out of my mind! Now everything can be done with CGI but I think it's over used in some cases. Every now and then it's nice to see some live action. Gone are the movies with casts of thousands. Now you can computer generate crowds or whatever. CGI does create more believable dinosaurs. I hated when they used giant lizards or crocodiles.
