Max Fleischer's first Superman cartoon!

Personally I prefer Popeye.

Wile E Coyote

was alleged to be a gateway drug to mass murder. So why are all those people I don't particularly care for still breathing my air?

The Roadrunner cartoons

Are used as training films in terrorist camps

Roadrunner was always cool...

...I also kinda dug the older version of daffy where he was clearly a manic. Then he just became a nasty fellah. The old version of Porky was funny as well. He would stutter a lot more, and he was fatter too.
I just like clean animation with no shading. Garfield, Tom and Jerry, the Simpsons, whatever. It's more pleasing to the eye then some of the lower budget stuff, albiet, if that's what they had to work with, well...

one of my favorite daffy duck cartoons

Coyote's origins weren't completely lowbrow

In describing the character's motivation, Chuck Jones cited Santayana's definition of a fanatic: "Someone who redoubles his efforts when he forgets his aim."
The way I see it, Jones must have plunked out the Roadrunner cartoons while thinking up his greater works. In the case of WHAT'S OPERA, DOC? he first finished a Roadrunner series entry (or the Wolf & the Sheepdog, same difference) in three weeks instead of the usual five, then used the saved fortnight to spend seven whole weeks making that classic. He got the whole crew to fake their work reports so the studio wouldn't know.
When I was a kid, my favorite WB cartoon character was Bugs; now that I'm a grownup, I prefer Daffy. My favorite Daffy cartoon would be DUCK AMUCK. ("Ain't I a stinker?")

Speaking of Chuck Jones...

here's a really trippy and somewhat obscure one from the 60s which is all about sound (I have no idea if this is on any of the Looney Tunes box sets or not - since it doesn't actually feature any of the Looney Tunes characters, it's hard to say...)

Should you ever find yourself in Santa Fe

make the time to go to the Chuck Jones Museum.

Chuck Jones did some of the Tom and Jerrys

He's da man!
-
I wonder if they're any better than the regular Tom and Jerry

which are vastly inferior to Looney Tunes

I should see if I can find

I should see if I can find some since Jones is an expert at that type of cartoon

That or Gigantor

There truly has been hideous animation. Clutch Cargo barely, BARELY, qualifies as such. I saw that trainwreck; on The Higgins Boys and Gruber from the old Comedy Channel, if I remember correctly.

My Daughter, then 15, met a bunch of Crankylanders

at a Cedar Point Crankycon. After she spent an hour or so in their company, I asked her (in private), "So, what do you think of my fellow Crankylanders?"
Her reply: "You know for adults, they certainly know a lot about cartoons."

I'll never understand the love of Anime

Pokemon and all that other crap. I can't stand bad animation that's why I can't enjoy South Park like some people can.

just pretend it isn't

just pretend it isn't animated. its more of a straight comedy than a cartoon anyways. With anime its more of an action show than a cartoon. John K, the creator of the late, great Ren and Stimpy, always says theres a difference between animation and cartoons. so if you see something like anime thats not done in a really not especially cartoony way, its not really a cartoon.
The thing to remember about anime is that its dubbed, and many anime dubs are in really crappy quality. A lot of american versions of anime that seem really stupid and childish area actually extremely emotional and powerful Japanese dramas.

Top howevermany

Seeing as most of the posts are devoted to what isn't cared for, I thought I'd toss this out. These are some of my favorites past and present, either for the animation, the stories, the humor, or a combination thereof. (and in no particular order)
Venture Bros.
Bugs Bunny (early to mid)
Thundercats
Powerpuff Girls
Dexter's Laboratory (and The Justice Friends)
Daffy Duck (early)
Scooby Doo
Futurama
Family Guy (early primarily)
Stocker and Hoop
Space Ghost Coast to Coast
Ren and Stimpy
Robot Chicken
Cowboy Bebop
Might have left a show or two out, but that looks like a good sample of what I do like. Flame away. :P

One of my favorite scenes in Sponge Bob

Sponge Bob and Patrick are sitting around a roaring campfire and Patrick says "Hey, aren't we underwater?" suddenly the fire goes out. It's like the reality was fine til Patrick mentioned it. Similar to the old bit where the cartoon character runs off a cliff and he can keep on running as long as the doesn't look down. Only then does he fall.

I'd love to put Tom & Jerry

I'd love to put Tom & Jerry on the top of my list lol. I dont often watch western animations, esp. modern ones, my liking would go for Japanese animations. I enjoyed all of Disney's productions and would love to watch them over again: The lion king, Beauty and the beast, White Snow and the seven dwarves...

you do mean snow white,

you do mean snow white, right.
as for Japanese animation I adore One Piece

Anyone remember the after-school cartoon "Transor-Z?"

I dug that one when I was a kid, though no one I know remembers it. It was about a flying robot that was piloted by a kid and hidden in a volcano.

Two more that I enjoyed, from Nickelodeon

Both were cartoon serials:
"Belle and Sebastian" and "Mysterious Cities of Gold."
Interestingly, a pretty good indie band from the late 90's - early 00's named themselves Belle and Sebastian.

I used to watch "Transor-Z"

I used to watch "Transor-Z" AND "Belle and Sebastian", though both were on sunday mornings up where i'm at.
"Belle and Sebastian" was actually on TV Ontario.
"Transzor-Z" had a real Voltron vibe.

This really ought to be a forum on it's own.

Seeing as so many of us are animation fans.
Anyway, the guys over at the "Cartoon (animation is serious fucking business!) Brew" blog are letting us ordinary people vote for our favorite Looney Tunes shorts for an upcoming book.
As far as not-good cartoons go, let's all play in the Cartoon Dump!

A thought I had during the Golden Globes.

Maybe you've thought of this too.
I don't think it's all that unreasonable to have somebody who actually knows what they're talking about introduce the animation categories at an award show. Why the Jonas Brothers? Why not Brad Bird? Damn you, Animation Age Ghetto!
/ Taking a Flash class at MassArt this winter.
// P.S. - Current generation of preteen girls, your Boy Band sucks. What kind of Boy Band only has three people in it? NKOTB 4-eva.

Dammit, disregard the above gibberish.
