The Dexter Thread
This is the closest thing to real film noir that has ever been on television. Dexter makes all the other cop and forensic shows look like Matlock. SUCK ON IT, CARUSO!

My wife and I agree with your "Dream" Dexter Episode

Background: Dexter is set in Miami.
On tonight's episode, Dexter Morgan solves Miami's nasty David Caruso problem.

A Dexter Riley thread?

In the latest installment, Kurt Russell gets a twelve-inch dick and becomes the campus love machine.

The opening credits are unreal.

Those mundane-yet-gruesome shots are totally striking.
I've only watched the 1st season, but some of it really bugs me.
His inner voice, for example. Describing to us every friggin' dramatic atom of a scene. "I am empty...like a cookie jar, only no cookies. And so I can't feel anything. I am numb. Like Britney's vajayjay...did I mention that I am empty? Yes? OK, see that's why I kill. I have to. See?"
Yes.
So, one question.
Does this guy's character actually grow in the next couple of seasons, or are we subjected to a lousy rationalization for his actions?

Character developmen? OMG Yes!

It's interesting to watch him go thought the motions of developing a relationship with Rita and her children only to find himself actually becoming involved. In season two, he begins to get a better understanding of himself though meeting the lovely Lila. Dude, Season Two Kicked Five Kinds of Ass. In season three, Dexter finally makes his first friend, and participates in some real male bonding. It seems they have a common interest. Or do they? Jimmy Smits does a hell of a job in the friend role. By the way, those around Dexter, such as Debra Morgan, also grow richly in character.
WARNING: The Surgeon General has determined that continued use of Dexter can lead to an addiction.

The opening credit and moi

If there's two things Coaster loves, it's the opening sequence from Dexter and talking about himself in third person.
I watched the latest Dexter (s3e10) on Tuesday night. Wednesday, as I was shaving, there was the Dexter theme playing in my head. It kept up as I was donning my tee shirt and pulling my shoe laces tight. This had never happened before and yeah, I was a bit concerned.
By Thursday morning, I again had theme music playing in my head. But it turned out to be my ususal: The theme from The Odd Couple.
However, if I was that snotty nosed nasty ass convenience store attendant where I get gas several times a week, I'd still be a bit worried. BWAH HAH HAH HAH HAH HAH(cough, wheeeeze) haaaaaaa! Coaster has "needs" too!

Dexter should do a guest appearance on Sesame Street

He could teach kids how to tie their shoes, really really tight!

About the voice

It's sort of a Mickey Spillane kind of device. Often it's quite funny the comments his brain makes.
I don't know how much real progress Dexter is making as far as human relationships go since he's faking being human most of the time. The only one I think he really loves is Deb his sister.
He has departed a little bit from the Harry Code. Dexter is a good person for the most part. He likes kids, he draws the line at kids. Harm kids and you have a problem with Dexter.

I have an extreme prejudice against voiceover narration...

...bordering on a fixation. It drives me NUTS. Can't think of a single movie/tv show outside of A Christmas Story that wouldn't be better off without it (and don't give me anya that Goodfellas crap, neither!). Anyhow, my prejudices aside- it would be cool if he started to do it less as he became more of an interactive human. Hell, I'd do it less...
Guess I'll soon see, won't I? Yes, I, I certainly will. I know. I just said that. I know, too, as I, too, said it, too. Wait a second! Weren't I wearing a hat a second ago? Maybe I was...But maybe I was!!!! muahahahahahaaa.

With Dexter it serves a purpose

He doesn't feel human emotions like the rest of us so it's nice to know now and then what he's thinking. If you had to guess what he was thinking by his interactions with others you'd be way off base. He has learned how to fake acting normal. He is getting better at interacting but that only means he's getting better at faking it.

Right...

Which is why I think it would be cool if it happened less the more he became normal...if that is what is happening to him. I mean, if he's averse to killing kids and "good guys" then he's got SOMEthing going on in there.

Dexter has accepted who he is

He knows he's a monster but he can control himself. That's what this code of his is all about. Don't think he'll change that much. Most of his changes are outwardly.

Currently in the middle of season 2...

Still waiting to see just how fucked up Lilah is (I'm hoping she's more then just a psycho stalker), just how fucked up Doakes becomes (the last ep I watched had the classis "turn in your badge" scene), and just how many more messed up things Dexter finds out about his past (for all his "codes", Harry seems to have been kind of a dick in some ways). Still can't decide if Dexter is as "bad" as, say, Tony Soprano or "The Shield"'s Vic Mackey...

Duuuuude, if either of those two punks came to Dexter's attention, their body parts would be deep in the gulf stream working their way to the North Sea by now.
Dexter Morgan is sooooo badass, that Chuck Norris tells jokes about him.
