Seinfeld had it wrong. The true story of Festivus

The guy who wrote the episode of Seinfeld that had the Festivus celebration in it has written the definitive book on the subject. Jason Alexander, from the show, writes the introduction.

Floriduh third happiest state

During this joyous Festivus season we in South Floriduh have many things to be thankful for. Like no goddamn snow to shovel off our cars. And no state income tax. And no city income tax. OK we do have to deal with the most insane drivers in the country. Even Santa is terrified of driving on I-95.
A recent study found that Florida is the third happiest state in the union right after Louisiana and Hawaii. California was ranked number 46 and New York state was dead last. Little surprise there.

Don't tax me Santa Claus

The big fat man has popularized the idea of getting something for nothing. Gifts and public services just materialize out of thin air. But high taxes come with a cost. The following is from an article by William Voegeli in the City Journal:
"Summarizing the findings of a report they wrote for the American Legislative Exchange Council, Laffer and Moore pointed out that between 1998 and 2007, the states without an individual income tax “created 89 percent more jobs and had 32 percent faster personal income growth” than the states with the highest individual income-tax rates. California’s tax and regulatory policies, the report predicts, “will continue to sap its economic vitality,” while Texas’s “pro-growth” policies will help it “maintain its superior economic performance well into the future.” The clear implication is that California should become more like Texas."

PS: Almost all the high tax states are shrinking in population. Almost all the low tax states are gaining population. People are voting with their feet.
PPS: Happy Festivus everyone! Hope you didn't max out your credit cards on useless gifts.
