Jeff Kent?

This jack hole is a 'lock' for the hall of fame?  Because he hit more homeruns than any other second baseman?  Whoop-dee-freaking-doo.  Using that logic Ozzie Smith shouldn't be in the hall.  Someone tell Peter Gammons he doesn't know everything about baseball.  Putting Jeff Kent in would be as egregious as the Ryne Sandberg debacle.

Best offensive second baseman of all time, he was just average in defense, but he did play there his whole carreer.

If if were otherwise, Harold Baines would already be in.  There are 5 tools, and Kent had one.

PS:  Joe had 111 RBIs and a batting average of .320 in 1976 while playing for the Cincinnati Reds.  What kind of money could he get today with stats like that?  The mind wobbles.  Just like my Joe Morgan bobble head doll.

PPS:  OK it's also true that no team could pitch around him while he played for the Big Red Machine.  But still...

He should never be in the Hall of Fame.  Shoeless Joe maybe should be.  See "Eight Men Out" (1988) and decide for yourself.

It's a pretty good depiction of the Black Socks scandal written and directed by John Sayles.
