People showing up with guns at the President's townhall meetings an implied threat?
most definitely
Why is this being allowed?
I don't buy this crap about this being a demonstation of their 2nd amendment rights.

They have the right to do

They have the right to do it. So who cares.
It is funny watching the pundits on MSNBC almost wet their panties in fear, however.
The main thing they are ignoring is that there are already tons of people with guns at these events. Secret service, police, etc. Why are they not making such a huff about these people carrying weapons? Why, one of them could go off the cuff at any moment!
What gives them a privilege that a normal citizen does not have?
The real problem they have with these open-carry people is that they aren't state-sanctioned and controlled.
They need to get some perspective.
"To begin with, they might recall the day, back in the 1960s, when a contingent of Black Panthers walked into the California State Legislative chambers with rifles and shotguns – while the legislature was in session – to make a political statement. No shots were fired; no one was injured; but the incident was intended to remind government officials of the purpose of the Second Amendment. Ordinary people – not the state’s police and military – are to have the ultimate power in a free society. It is this reminder – not the gun – that most terrifies members of the media, academia, etc."
"The political scientist who worried that the carrying of guns at such events “creates a chilling effect” on members of the public might ask, if he is sincere, whether armed functionaries of the state might produce the same effect."

Okay, here's a likely scenario

Say ten people come to the rally with handguns. Yes, they are not concealed, they've got permits and everything is legal and all fine and dandy. Now naturally the Secret Service is going to be watching these whack jobs, I mean "American Citizens". While they are busy watching these wingnuts, I mean "patriots", they fail to notice another "citizen" carrying a concealed weapon and this individual gets a shot off at the president. We've lost three presidents, a presidential candidate and a civil rights leader due to guns. It's more than clear what these "citizens" are saying when they bring guns to a place where the president is speaking and it has nothing to do with the 2nd amendment.

Six Reasons Why Guns Should Be Banned from These Rallies

Assassinated Presidents:
- Lincoln
- Garfield
- McKinley
- Kennedy
Presidents Survived Shooting Attempts:
- T. Roosevelt
- Ford
Allowing guns and rifles at presidential rallies defies common sense.

Hey Coaster, you forgot Reagan

Yeah, I'm trying to forget him too
I did forget Garfield. Boy, you think I'd remember a cat being president!

What if a thousand people with guns showed up?

If you really want to communicate your point of view on guns why not do just that and speak up? Carrying guns to a Presidential event and not saying anything sends a mixed message. A sign can communicate much more than a silent person with a gun.

This reminds me of an ALL IN THE FAMILY exchange

Archie Bunker: "He has a right to that gun! It's in the First Amendment!"
Meathead: "The First Amendment is free speech."
AB: "Well, when you've got a gun you've got free speech."

The Bush administration banned people with t-shirts

If people showed up at Bush's Presidential functions with sarcastic comments on their t-shirts they were put in fenced in "free speech" pens.
Guns don't kill people, haberdashery does.

You think they would allow this when Bush was president?

Heck no, he had the Secret Service watching everybody especially if they were carrying shoes or a sharp pretzel.

Coaster - you forgot Ronald Reagan

He was shot by Jodie Foster's Hollywood lib boyfriend. They are very dangerous.
Also President Bush the Second dodged a shoe - which can also be very dangerous esp. if it's a stiletto.

That's why

it's flat-chested. Makes no difference then if it's a girl or a guy then. Flat chested girls (or guys) with long hair give them a Jesus tapping experience. Oops, did I say that outloud?

boyshorts more than boys per se. At least that's what he told me. Regardless, as a Republican I can say all kinds of stuff and get away with it, just look around. :P
