In a free market capitalist ecomomy, the only reason that goods are produced is because there are customers who are willing to pay for them.
If I use my own money to buy something, and I receive enjoyment from my purchase, then it is not going to waste.
And if I happen to throw it in the trash when I am done with it, that's OK, because I got my money's worth when I was using it. I enjoyed using it, and then I got rid of it when I had no more use for it.
