08/08/97: Hurdi, gurdi, murdi (Swedish For: American Schools are Hell??)

I'm Swedish and have never seen the inside of a real American high-school... but when I watch American TV/cinema (plenty of that where I live, I can tell you), it seems like your educational system has collapsed. If American schools really suck that much, how come America is one of the richest, most powerful nations in the world? I'm not trying to be biased here, I'm just puzzled.
