as good a place as any to discuss Mr. Cranky seriously. He's a cynical, sneering, destructive, overtly offensive psychopath; he throws dirt and slobber on every movie that comes his way. So far so good; we all thank him for performing this valuable service; but he has another, more disturbing side to his character: he's formulaic, in fact 100 percent predictable. In the present case, 28 Days, he's of course justified in his frantic hatred -- even Our Sandra (such a cutie!) can't save this partial-birth abortion. But take, say, Toy Story 1 & 2, flicks that everybody likes and admires for their polish and ingenuity, flicks that even Mr. Cranky obviously enjoyed. Because there's nothing genuinely slangable about them, Mr. Cranky turns rather distractedly to slamming the MERCHANDISING! As if we cared! As if ordinary off-the-shelf movie hype had the slightest impact on the kind of people who post to a sick forum like this! Mr. Cranky, listen to one who means you (relatively) well: IF YOU CAN'T SAY SOMETHING BAD, THEN JUST SHUT UP!
