She's a character from the Dracula novel.
In the comics, she's entirely human. But she's quite capable and is the group's leader, though she didn't found it.
For the movie, they've changed things so that she's a vampire. Different from the comic, different from how Dracula was written, but more *extraordinary* (which helps balance out the movie's silly addition of a not-so- extraordinary Tom Sawyer).
