They can give you both something to use while you're having an attack (Albeutrol, in my case) and stuff to use once or twice a day to keep the asthma in check (Accolate, Flovent, Serevent et al). You probably shouldn't use Primatene Mist unless you really have an emergency - that shit's damaging in the long run...
