10/03/96: "Fiction" better than "Dogs"? Come on, Supe!

It's my opinion (and we all know what they say about opinions) that "Reservoir Dogs" runs rings around "Pulp Fiction". The narrative is tighter, the flashbacks are used to better effect, and the performances are extraordinary. I think "Pulp" suffered from being a bit too glossy, too crammed with vignettes and cameos, to be judged the better film. There were some great performances (Sam Jackson was unjustly overshadowed by the "Comeback Kid" Travolta), but on the whole, it was too slick - "Dogs" more gritty, visceral approach resonates with me, even after seeing it countless times.

Although Tarantino's going to begin to look like a flash in the pan if he doesn't get it together and follow up "Fiction" with something that resembles real filmaking.

Death
