At a major university football program, only being able to kick a 35 yarder hardly qualifies you for being a good kicker. Kickers are routinely expected to make shots of 40+ yards. Hell, our kicker here at PSU tried a 60+ yarder, I think, in an attempt to beat Ohio State this past season, and he was only a couple yards short and a couple yards wide. 35 yard kicks are considered chipshots.
But regardless, I couldn't believe the guy said the shit that he did. But I'm sure he did feel some pressure from above when it came to keeping the girl on the squad. "oohhhh, look at all the good PR we'll get from having a beautiful girl on our team." Meanwhile, situations like that definitely screw with a team's working ability. I'm sure the coach was frustrated with everyone focusing on the chick, while his good kicker(s) didn't get any kind of praise.
