the ending is Speilbergish, sappy and a happy ending? are you on crack?
the ending is as sad as sad can be. by bringing back the mother, David is happy, and the mother acts happy, but the underlying idea is that they have swtiched roles from where they were at the beginning of the film. Now Mommy is the toy. and then after all that time, she's gone again. and theres no more humans around, and David is all alone.
the ending is another part to the movie, and is put there somehwhat like the parts of 2001. the ending is one of the most Kubrick-like things in the whole damn movie.
