03/06/02: at least pay attention

Posted By: bloopityblah

i don't care if you like the movie or not.. but in my mind your criticisms become immediately invalidated by your obvious ignorance of the film you're reviewing..

i don't even know where to start.. how about this:

Kubrick specifically asked Spielberg to direct this film. Spielberg (perhaps wisely) turned it down, knowing how close the project was to Kubrick's heart. However, Spielberg and Kubrick remained in close contact, and maintained a constant collaboration on this project throughout most of its development. After Kubrick died, his widow asked Spielberg once again to direct it.. and Spielberg jumped at the chance to make the story that he had been so closely involved with from the get-go, and pay tribute to his close friend all at the same time.

point 2: the last 20 minutes of the movie were not "tacked on by Spielberg". this was the story that Kubrick wanted to tell. love it or hate it, just blame the right person.

point 3: the beings at the end were not aliens.. they were advanced mechas.. which explains the reason they were so interested in the history of humans and how they created mechas (is it starting to fall into place yet?)

point 4: johnson-johnson was played by Brendan Gleeson. NOT Brendan Fraser.. that's just a silly mistake to make, and one you certainly should have caught.

i suggest you pee and get your popcorn BEFORE the film starts.. and not DURING the movie. if that's not the problem, maybe you should change your name from Mr. Cranky to Mr. No Attention Span.
