06/10/98: Luckily, it got better as it progressed

The movie got better, not your review. Just kidding. Since I don't have anything original to say, I'll make some comments on your review.

At first I hated the rag tag band of homeless characters (Winnona Ryder etc.) because they reminded me of that group of idiots from Alien 2. I thought, oh here we go, now I have to watch these dopes get picked off one by one over the course of the movie by Aliens, in increasingly violents ways. Not that I don't like to watch bloody deaths, but not when I'm bored with the cliched, tougher than ship rivets, jaded, sarcastic, scarred, nasty, she-males, could care less if they live or die characters.

I did however grow attached (like a genetic mutation) to Ron Perelman (Beast) and the futuristic gonja man (the black guy). Perelman had some funny lines and his character wasn't totally paper thin, as he showed when he saved the black guy when he had an Alien dangling from his foot on the ladder. About that part, it was stupid how he cut his belts and let himself drop in the water because the weight of the alien was hurting his lil' toe, why the hell didn't he just wiggle his freakin' foot!!

About suspense building...there was none. The first part of the movie where the characters are introduced, before the impending alien escape, was a waste. It was all filler to get to the good stuff. There was no story there, or plot development. And some of the characters died off so quickly, that you didn't get a chance to know them or care about them. Thier main purpose was Alien dinner.

I missed it, what was the militarys purpose? Why were they breeding half-aliens half humans (with saggy tits)? Call me inattentive, but I didn't have the patience to figure it out. Really it didn't matter, it was just some bullshit story thrown in, the filmmakers just wanted to hurry-up and show us really bloody and gruesome deaths. Like the Aliens body squeezing through the hole in the window, which I have a feeling was inaccurate, it wouldn't have happenned that way, he would have just plugged up the hole and stayed there. Now that's nit-picking but I like to type incoherent and flawed statements.

Also, Ripley's action-hero type one-liners were pathetic and not funny. She should leave that to Arnold, Bruce Willis, Stallone and Snipes, who are so ignorant that I expect it from them. But coming from her it just didn't go over well.

Anyway, to end this total mess of a review....the movie got better as it went becuase of the semi-exciting action, and I just accepted the fact that the story an after-though. But thats it, I don't need another Alien movie, it's beaten to death, unless James Cameron directs it...starring Leonardo Dicaprio and Kate Winslet, 2 hours watching them frolic around a huge space ship... aww falling in love...PUKE!
