YEAH! I saw this last night, and have to say that I consider it the second best entry of the entire series. Considering the circumstances, I think Mr. Jeunet did a great job.
I mean come on! H.R. Giger's alien design has been seen by just about everybody on the planet! The series has had all it's suspense sucked out of it already! The first movie had a multitude of things going for it: the tremendous suspense, the originality of the creature, which was not revealed until the end, and it's methods of killing, the complete surprise of Sigourny Weaver's survival (most were surely expecting someone else), and the cold, hard appraisal of a corpocracy obsessed only with the bottom line. "Aliens", what the hell was that? It was just mindless violence, hordes of aliens killing people! You can't tell me it was any deeper than this!
Jean-Pierre Jeunet took something that had become old hat to just about everyone and injected new life into it. Anyone seeing an Alien movie is no longer genuinely scared of this crap! At most, they are grossed out. So he grossed us out, and he turned this into an intense, hard hitting, tremendously visceral and tremendously well-put-together action flick. And I, for one, loved it!
Guns, explosions, crazy camera angles, new monsters, blood and guts, a humerous robot and a new twist on everything. What more could you ask for? Besides, do you really want "Alien 3" to be remembered as the glorious series finale? The story had deeper meaning too; it gave me a sense of relief knowing that the public sector was back in charge, while still frightening me that this government is just as immoral as it's corporate predecessors were. But I bothered to post here because I loved it at face value. Forget about the actors, the director, etc, and leave yourself with this great action packed experience. Bravo!
