11/04/00: Alien Resurrection: My review

Posted By: power_critic

I was more than skeptical when I heard they were making a fourth Alien movie. Anytime a movie has more than sequal, you know that they're only dragging it along for money. Especially when the third movie is so awful. An utter disappoint to the first two Alien movies, it's amazing that any movie producer would dare try to retain any self respect with a fourth.

As everyone knows by now, in the third Alien movie, Sigourney Weaver has an Alien inside her chest and she kills herself so "The Company" can't have it. So Alien Resurrection starts out two hundred years later, using DNA cloning, they are able to get an exact copy of Ripley complete with Alien queen inside of her. They remove the queen and wait for a cargo ship. The cargo is actually test human beings who will be forced to carry the alien creatures inside their bodies.

Meanwhile, Weaver recounts all of her memories and discovers that her body is stronger and more powerful than before. Her blood is also strongly acidic as she takes on some of the powers from her parasitic friend.

The other aliens, now full grown escape and begin a snack attack on the crew as it heads towards Earth. Weaver teams up with the cargo crew to escape.

Unlike most Alien fans who hated this concept, I actually found it enjoyable. It most certainly made up for Alien 3. Ron Pearlman impressed me as the confident cargo ship leader who isn't afraid to speak his mind or take a chance on anything. This movie may not be sci-fi's greatest Alien flick, but it is a great action movie. If more people realized that instead of judging it as Alien Resurrection: the fourth movie that should have never been made, then perhaps people would like it more.

p.c.
