ALMOST FAMOUS TO BE ADAPTED FOR TELEVISION?

Hollywood, CA - David Allen, producer of the popular situation comedy Friends, confirmed that he has begun pre-production on a new show for the NBC network named "Rock Writer." The show will premier in early 2001 as a mid-season replacement. Rock Writer stars unknown Lloyd Eldnurg, who up until now has appeared in or starred in over 70 commercials and 15 rock videos. The new show's protagonist is a precocious 15-year-old high school student who, after writing a series of rock reviews which appeared in a local California paper, is recruited by the international rock magazine, "Beat Tell." The show will chronicle his odyssey as he ventures in to world of hard rock.

When contacted for comment, director Cameron Crowe was visibly upset. "No! Not again!" Crowe stated. "This is the same crap Allen pulled with his show "Friends." He at least had the decency back then to ask for permission to turn my film "Singles" in to a TV show. I turned him down, but he went ahead and did it anyway. He called it "Friends," but little was changed from the movie. The movies was about six twenty-somethings who essentially live together. Sound familiar? He even has a character on his show who sings weird songs about her cat, for Gods sake. He then tells the papers that the characters on his show are based on people he grew up with. What nonsense. The lawyers advised me against involving myself in a suit last time. This latest development just floors me. I'll see what legal has to say about it this time."

Allen claims the similarities between Rock Writer and Almost Famous are just coincidental. "This show has been in development for the last three years," claims Allen. Allen also denied allegations that he was involved with earlier failed projects to air shows titled "Say Something" and "Rapid Times at Reseda High." --- T.M. Elkcib, Staff Writer
