Are you serious? First of all, the obvious fault in your logic is that you've been in a band for 23 years, making you a rock music veteran since 1979 or so. Problem is, this movie is set in years up to and including 1973. So you do not, in fact, speak from experience like the director does. (Cameron Crowe did in fact tour with the Allman Brothers.) Elton John was once cool. (This ended sometime around 'Philadelphia Freedom' or 'Don't Go Breaking My Heart')

Second of all, this movie is not about simple happy-feely conflict resolution wrapped up in a neat little package. Notice how the guy (either one) does NOT get the girl. Notice how the guy's big romantic moment occurs as he watches the girl getting her stomach pumped. Notice that this movie is set back when VD wasn't a problem (at least not a deadly one) and hippies could still be taken seriously. You gotta get your head outta the 21st century to enjoy this one.
