06/09/98: Re: Ghostbusters

The Real Ghostbusters was one of the greatest cartoons of all time, and the original Ghostbusters was one of the best movies of the fantasy/comedy/horror combo genre of the early 80s (Other good ones being The Princess Bride, Labyrinth, The Goonies, and The Never Ending Story.) The second one was kind of disappointing, I thought, except for the court scene with the Spinelli brothers.

Actually, now that I think about it The Real Ghostbusters started to get kind of lame once Dave Couliay (or whatever his name was. Ya know, the Full House guy) replaced Lorenzo Music as the voice of Peter Venkman. Also Janine, who was played as a sarcastic hottie in the early episodes, was dulled down once her orinignal voice left. And once it become "Slimer! and The Real Ghostbusters!" there was no saving it. Still, with its mix of cool pseudo-science and off-beat humor, The Real Ghostbusters was one of the best Saturday morning cartoons of the 80s.

Never cared much for Filmation myself. As far as I can tell, Filmation has never made anything that doesn't suck. Did anyone else have the misfortune of seeing their pathetic attempt at a feature length movie with "Happily ever after?"

PLAN 9 RULES!!!
