the U.S. was giving money to the Taliban until September of 2001.
Our hatred of Fidel is just too perfect, too long standing, to ruin with an invasion. It would ruin everything!
Now Syria, they not only fit the Iraq template, their invasion would also do the thing most important to the Bush admin neocons: secure Israel and oil supplies. Plus, there's no sentimental attachment to Assad.
