04/10/03: An answer from a non-legal person...

Posted By: Slothrop

I had a friend in a similar situation where they basically had a contract for X amount of time and they were let go shortly before X amount of time came up with little notice.

When they asked a lawyer about this, they were basically told that yes, they could sue for lost wages for the X amount of time, but considering the short amount of time that it was and the monetary cost of legal counsel and the hassle of filing, that it probably wasn't worth it.

So the question is, for you, is it worth the trouble of trying to sue to get 5 days worth of pay? Of course, you could try to politely point out to their H.R. dept. the legalities of your contract, but if push comes to shove, unless you were pulling down some serious cash, it's probably not worth the trouble to pursue breach of contract.
