05/18/01: My two cents... with some change

Posted By: Whitey

What really bothers me about this argument here is that it goes nowhere. Everybody's got an opinion and nobody ever wants to change their opinion or become open to anyone else's opinion out of fear of relenting and thus losing the argument. Instead, verbal disagreements continue to accelerate until they turn into fistfights... of course this doesn't apply to the internet since you can't see hear or reach out and slice your opponent's throat. However, one could also apply this problem on a more global scale. Which is right? Capitalism or Communism? Uh oh, we just started a war!

This brings me to the fabled two cents I wanted to throw into this fountain of political fury. If you are not going to listen to one another, you have no right to speak in the first place. Everything goes back to the golden rule. If I think I have a point and want to express it, I expect people to listen to that point and evaluate its worth, not wait impatiently for their turn to keep speaking. I think stubbornness is a subordinant clause to the 1st of the deadly sins: pride.

But, I'm starting to preach here. I think it's time I shut up and listen to what anyone else has to say... that is unless this forum is dead to.
