Serene You are only Half right. The piles of obscene wealth and royalty did seem to make the movies theme of home, love, and, family, more shallow. But if you had payed attention to the movie you would have heard the Dowager Empress say to her grand daughter "You were born into this world of glittering jewels and fine titles..But I wonder if this is what you really want?" And if this movie is more about wealth and royalty, why did Anya give up her crown, her, title, and that glittering world of elegant palaces and grand parties, to marry a poor man who probably could not even afford a wedding ring? I also agree that silly Rasputan made the movie a little shallow with all of his removable parts. But there is way more to his character then that. He caused the deaths of Anastasias mother, father, sisters, and little brother. He distroyed her home, and at the end of the movie he almost distroys the man she loves, not to mention that he caused the train accident, and the nightmare at sea, which added a little adventure to the movie. And as for the movie denying that the poorer people starved, and had great hardships, as well as new leaders (Lenin, Stalin, etc) taking over the government, when you saw Beauty And The Beast did you say "That's not real! there were no castles and princes in eighteenth century France! what about the french government? what about the french king? what about the hardships of the poor people of France? why hasn't anyone mentioned the french revolution?" I am sure you did not. You probably understood that the movie was teaching us about love, and how you do not have to be beautifull to get it. It's the same with Anastasia. The movie IS a fairy tail, the fact that the princess COULD have survived is a fairy tail in itself. This movie has quite a good moral lesson. Anastasia was a princess when she was a child, she was surrounded by wealth and royalty.. but at the end she learns that being a princess, having wealth and power, and sporting a diamond crown, is not worth losing Dimitri.
