I read your comments. I don't agree with you, but thanks for arguing reasonably. I, for one am sick of being called a "snot nosed college kid" when I bring these points up. What is the deal about "snot-nosed"? I understand the idea of "anal retentive" but what's snot in the nose got to do with intellect in the brain?
Anyway, back to the argument. Beauty and the beast didn't have a historical context. If I remember correctly, they said, "Once upon a time," not "In the 18th Century during the French revolution3, while Louis 11th (Is that the right number?) was getting beheaded. It is clearly a fairy tale, as opposed to Anastasia, where people can pin-point the disparities exactly. "Once upon a time in St. Petersburg, known as Stalingrad after the Revolution, there was the Bolshevik Revolution, which dethroned the Romanov family that had been ruling for 300 years, with the Communists. However, later the Communists had a power strcggle, YadaYadaYada" You see what I mean? There are facts to contradict that movie. And if you are going to get on the "Beauty and the Beast" was different from the original, then check the movie, where the key word is DISNEY'S Beauty and the beast. It is THEIR VERSION.
I personally love that movie and think it was a vast improvement on traditional fairy tales.
