I just read a follow up to one of my posts. The person brought up that Anya did give up her royalty to be with Dimitri, because love was more mportant than money, home is where the heart is, etc. But I'm wondering, why DOES she have to give up everything? Why can't she keep Dimitri AND her title? It's not like she would need to make a marriagev of state. And by marrying him she would essentially be stating that he means more than money, society, etc. why does she need to prove it?
The whole thing seems kind of sexist to me. Prince and peasant girl ala Cinderella is OK, but Dimitri can't stand just being Mr. Anastasia, he's got to be on an equal financial footing with her even if it wrecks them. He doesn't like the idea that she's a rich duchess and he's the poor boy. It's like Anya did an Alice in Wonderland and ate a piece of mushroom titled MONEY and all of a sudden, she's towering over Dimitri and he can't stand it.
And as a warning3, the first person to call 6me a fe6minazi 6man-hater will 4be pursued and eate6mn 4by a tatooed 4bald circus geek.
