I very much doubt that anything in this movie had to do with sexism. For one thing, if Dimitri felt that he had to be on equel financial status with Anya why did he give up the ten million rubles? it did not matter to him that she had more money then he did. It matterd that she was the empresses real grand daughter and he felt that paris was Anyas rightfull home. He was upset that Anya was the real princess and he felt that she was way to good for him, and he did not deserve to marry her now that he has found out that she is royalty. And as for not wanting to be "Mr Anastasia" and not asking her to marry him after she became a princess , that is not true. Dimitri did not ask her to marry him and let him stay in the palace because he thaught that she was perfectly happy there without him. And do you honestly think that Parisian high society would accept a former palace servant turned con artist, as a suitable husband for Her Imperial Highness, The Grand Duchess Anastasia Nicolaivna?
