"My first memory of the German language was a two-minute black and white film clip of Adolf Hitler ranting and raving like a madman. The words that came from him seemed to be nothing more than grunts and growls like some wild animal might make. A few years ago I saw a similar film clip and this time I understood the words he spoke. It was still in German, but this time I heard such phrases as “we must feed the hungry!” and “the suffering of the poor shall be relieved!” He sounded like a simple politician. I’m not sure if it scares me more that Hitler sounded to me like an American politician or that today all politicians sound to me like Hitler."
