Motley Crue fired Vince Neil. That's actually how the press releases described it : "fire." Of course, two albums with John Carobi (or whatever his name is), they promptly renegotiated terms with Vince.
I think Van Halen also "fired" David Lee Roth, but I don't remember if they actually called it that.
I figure Eamon needs some compassionate support here, so I'll admit that I kind of like Third Eye Blind's "Jumper," though it gets on your nerves after a while. Most of the rest of their stuff doesn't exactly float my boat, though.
