02/01/00: Couldn't have done worse if he tried!

I think the director read Tolstoy's book and thought, "I'll root this story as much as possible. The lead actors should be amazingly miscast and without sexual chemistry. I should edit it so that two thirds of the trailer should not appear in the actual film, and delete the bits that are necessary to adequately explain the story. Everyone should speak with different accents although they are all apparently Russian, and I'll give Sophie Marceau a pathetic little fringe that hides her natural beauty, therefore denying the audience any visual pleasure at all." I could go on and on. I can't explain the sheer awfulness of this film. I'm sure that when this film was released, Tolstoy rolled over in his grave.
