Hold the flames until I get this whole next sentence out. "Prince of Tides" was by far superior as a film than as a novel. Now, understand, part of the reason for that is that the book sucked in such a major way. But Streisand told the story simply and movingly, dealing with the lurid melodramatic elements about as well as anyone could. The love-idyll in the second half is a major mistake, but nobody's perfect.

Now, if La Streisand just had a really good property to direct WITHOUT starring as well...
