I'm with Phydeaux on this one. There is almost no way that a mainstream film n hollywood today can deal with science fiction as it s written. I think that a lot of this is due to the fact that most good Sci-Fi novels rely almost totally on internal consistency, almost making it in itself a major plot device to make the story 'realistic' to the audience. Movies by nature are unable to maintain that consistency, because of the demands of all of the factions; writers, directors, producers, etc. A book is generally written by one person, especially a good book. How many books have you loved that had more than three authors? I don't think so. Indeed, all book to movie conversions face the same problem to some degree, but in Sci-Fi the problem is exacerbated by the damage to internal consistency, which destroys the integrity of the story.
I think that this is the real problem behind the dearth of good sci-fi movies today. The conversion between media destroys their reality. OK, time to leave the soapbox. -Bad
