I saw the 1935 Greta Garbo version many years ago and loved it, but on Cinemania Pauline Kael says it's more MGM than Tolstoy. I haven't read the book (yet), so I don't know how true it is to the story. I also noticed there were two other movie versions, one in 1985 starring Paul Scofiel, Jacqueline Bisset and Christopher Reeve!
