While Cranky may be correct in saying that Tolstoi was Russian, as an aristocrat in 19th century Russia, his primary language (as it was for most aristocrats) was French (his novels were written in French). Only the lower classes spoke Russian as their only language. So, the fact that we have a French accent in Russia in the 19th Century Anna Karenina is not that odd, though the last thing I want to do is defend this film...
