Don't think anybody reads responses, but just in case...

Tolstoi wrote his novels in russian. And aristocrats didn't speak french all the time (even among themselves). "Primary language" was russian. Though, I don't think it's worth trying to reproduce russian accents in the movie (and I completely do not understand why they've chosen "Anna Karenina" to put on film - most russians consider this novel an extremely boring exercise in russian language, for the main ideas of the novel [position of women in the society of that time and so on] are vastly outdated)

Haven't seen the movie and ain't going to.
