I'm afraid that Canada's history is not quite that simple, or that peaceful. I'm assuming that you are in the "english" majority where you live, but your French speaking brethren will have a very different viewpoint, as will the Acadians who were forced from Canada and ended up in Louisiana.
You may want to consider the battle upon the Plain of Abraham, and the French/Indian wars of the 1700's. As an American, I'd also mention the war of 1812, and several other small scale battles that were fought in what is now Canada.
I don't think there's any country in this world with clean hands, Canada included.
