Basically, Obama stated that he had opposed the war from the beginning, and said that we should have continued in Afganistan and focused more on catching Bin Laden. He also said we could have saved the money not spent in Iraq, and spent it on our schools, and our nation's healthcare.
That is what I would have wanted, but that is in the past.
McCain on the otherhand, was more soft spoken. He brought up how going through what he went through (I assume he was obviously refering to his time as a POW) changed his life, and he talked about how he's not trying to be some big guy who's trying to save the country, but is comming humbly.
All this he said with great intellectual conversation, however, it doesn't change the fact that he supports the same agenda of believing that fixing Iraq, is fixing the war on terror. That is his agenda, is it not? Please correct me if I'm wrong.
And so, I'm all for not cuting and running, and leaving Iraq a complete mess. But lets assume we fix Iraq to the point where it operates perfectly within the next 4 years. That doesn't mean a thing as far as attacks on our country are concerned. The only terrorist going to Iraq, are ones focused on killing our soldiers through suicide bombing and the like. Before we arived, there were no terrorists who were focused on attacking America there. There were, and still are, terrorists in Afganistan and in other parts of the globe, who were, and still are, focused on attacking america. We have wasted an awful amount of time and resources in Iraq, and not invested that time and resources going into other places and searching out those responsible for 9/11 in the other places they hang out.
There is no country called known as Terror, where terrorists come from. Terrorist exist all over the glob in a vast network. A lot of them were based in Canada an Afganistan. Even if Saddam did sell DMD's to terrorists, wouldn't it be less an endeavour to go after the people he sold them to?
I don't want a president who's going to go and do the same thing the last guy did. While cleaning up Iraq is a concern, I'm also concerned with the money we spend there, and with time we could spend elsewhere.
Is McCain going to do that? Or will he do the same thing Bush did.
