I'm very curious as to how LOTR will translate to the screen - I'd hate to see an overtly literal translation of the fantasy aspects of the story. Call me a luddite, but isn't at least part of the beauty of "literature" (which LOTR most certainly is) the interaction between the reader and the text? ....(Don't worry, I'm not heading down the path of post-structural analysis of the text here!)... Where the reader brings his/her own imagination into the equation? I guess this sort of "mainstream" (which it will be, with that sort of money involved) film won't invite that type of interaction...And it will have to be geared for the masses as well to avoid being pigeon-holed as a "geek" film. Having said that though, P. Jackson is amply qualified for the job.
As for the Matrix, does that mean that Reeves is going to tour his shit-awful band, ...what are they called? Dogfood? Dead-dog? (yeah, I know, they're called Dogstar) through the Eastern States of Australia again? Poor bastards! Perhaps he could front for INXS instead of Terence Trent D'Arby...! Matrix was a cool film though...Hugo Weaving was ace, despite his "accent"!
