A commercial concentrated solar power station utilising the same sort of technology as the "Solar death ray" has been built in Spain that seems to be working out fine.

Hydro electric power in places is workable, and low-speed windmills are being researched.

There are lots of alternatives being developed, but even back when biofuels were new they were considered something of a stop-gap, not a final solution to global warming.
