Re-makes are an ancient tradition in film and television history; Kurosawa's samurai films were based loosely on American Westerns, which in tirn engendered the Spaghetti Westerns of Sergio Leone, as well as the Magnificent 7, one of the best westerns of all time, which led to The 3 Amigos, a movie which just gets funnier each time you see it; there were Batman serials in the theatre, and Superman as well went the sreial route; nobody seemed too outraged when Television brought these characters to the small screen; indeed, that particular medium has been home to many re-makes and adaptations of stage and silver screen productions, as well as recycling TV from other countries; several shows (Sanford & Son, All In The Family, Too Close For Comfort<who's BBC version was MUCH funnier-one of the few bennies of growing up near the Canuck border>)came from BBC TV initially; SIDEBAR: does anyone out there know where one might find episodes of CBC's "The Beachcombers", one of the coolest shows ever produced by Canadaian TV (the next best show was "King of Kensington; but THE absolute BEST CBC TV program was "The Friendly Giant" , an awesomely cool kid's show that I have decades of fond memories from; " Look up, look waaaaaay up...")? Hollywood started with re-makes almost as soon as the first film was distributed, often, in those early, crazy days, not aknowleging the re-make, and then re-making the re-make, and so on...
