10/30/00: Alas, I saw this movie...

I know what I am about to say is not Politically Correct and may even offend, but I cannot help myself: this movie was made with a particular and rarified demographic in mind; namely, gay interior decorators. I have nothing against gay interior decorators. I'm glad you have a movie to call your own. I just wish you'd warned me.

Lacking virtually all of the quirky charm of the British 60s TV show, this movie cared not about plot, flow, reason, sense, dialogue, or the characters this movie was based on. Instead, it wanted pretty nonsense scenes like the bubble walk across the water, which had nothing whatever to do with anything else going on in the movie. Steed and Emma just decide to go do that, apparently.

A movie that is all about clever entrance scenes and nothing else is a strange kind of movie. This "movie" would have succeeded better as a peepshow. Paying a quarter for each reel would have introduced pauses that might have allowed time for the mind to fill in the blanks.

Goodbye forever to Steed and Emma. Another 60s show is movie-ized and trashed. Thank you, Hollywood, once again.
