Just rented Whale Rider off of Netflix (really good movie - possibly on my year-end top 10, and the girl who plays the lead gives one of the best child-actor perfomances I've seen in awhile), and I was curious to see what IMDB's recommendations were.

Several good movies on the list (Godfather Saga, Braveheart, Magnolia, Finding Nemo, Manchurian Candidate, etc), but they aren't really similar to Whale Rider in any way - meanwhile, movies the film reminded me of such as Secret of Roan Inish (John Sayles's film about Irish fantasy creatures), Once Were Warriors (a somewhat more depressing look at modern-day Maori culture) and Rabbit- Proof Fence (film about Austrailian aboriginize girls running away from a place that "European-ized" them) were pretty much forgotten...
