06/14/1999: I agree with xyz and Beast

If you want hard-hitting sci-fi, watch something else-- "Armageddon" was for fun, and I do think "Deep Impact" wasn't as good because it was much more boring (not to mention it had kiddie-love in it).

Funny thing you guys should bring this up-- I saw "T-Rex: Back to the Cretaceous" at an IMAX theater over the weekend and it had an asteroid impact scene in it as well-- you know, the one from 65 million years ago which hit the Yucatan and created Armageddon I. Despite the IMAX, that impact scene was VASTLY inferior to either "Deep Impact's" or any of "Armageddon's." The story sucked VERY badly, the acting was horrific and there weren't anywhere near enough dinosaurs running around to make up for those factors. Even the ones that were running around looked like they were computer animated-- they didn't blend right in like "Jurassic Park" and "Lost World." I was very disappointed in the 7 bucks I spent on this movie.

I would disagree, Slim, that there are no asteroids the size of Texas. Asteroids made of dark compounds are difficult to find with even the most powerful of telescopes, radio included, because to find an asteroid you have to have a general idea of where it is, and not all of them are in the asteroid belt. 300 miles in diameter is hardly a planet-- in fact it's barely a moon-- all of the major satellites and every single planet exceeds 1000 miles. That's not to say I believe there are a lot of 300 mile asteroids out there, but it's not an impossibility. And considering how far out Pluto and Charon are, who's to say there aren't a few other objects like them bouncing around beyond their orbits? Most scientists agree that there's a lot left in our solar system we haven't discovered yet.
