06/16/1999: Why couldn't a single impact wipe out the dinosaurs at their peak?

Do you not believe it's possible for a good-sized meteorite to throw up enough dust into the atmosphere to block out the sun and kill off a significant portion of plant life, or for that matter, cool the earth (which Krakatoa is also believed to have done), perhaps enough that huge cold-blooded reptiles couldn't adapt. Yes, I've heard about the warm-blooded dinosaur theory, but who really knows?
