I absolutely LOVE Heavenly Creatures - it's one of my favorite films - genius cinematography, brilliant performances, great script. it's an awesome movie.
BUT....realistic in its portrayal of lesbians?!? I don't THINK so. i, for one, was never a psychotic teenage lesbian murderess. for the record: i never belonged to the fourth world. i never had sexual fantasies starring orson welles. and my mother is still very much alive and well. no bashing in heads with rocks in stockings for me, thanks.
an excellent film, but only realistic if you reside in a mental ward.
