It says right at the beginning of the film : "The following events actually happened." How much more realistic do you want than REAL?
I didn't mean that what happened in "Heavenly Creatures" was typical of every lesbian, or even hardly any lesbians at all. It was a movie about a real situation which happened to involve lesbians. And unlike a lot of goofy lesbian-related movies (like, say, "Wild Things"), it was fairly realistically-acted -- I could believe such an insane situation could have occurred even had I never seen the opening disclaimer. That's realistic! But I certainly didn't mean that every lesbian is a mental case or even that a lot of lesbians are mental cases or that the movie was an encyclopedia for the experiences of a large number of lesbians.
Perhaps I miswrote my article subject. Instead of saying "a realistic lesbian movie," maybe I should have said "a realistic movie which dealt with a couple of specific lesbians."
