This movie is actually based (albeit loosely) on a short story by the late Issac Asimov. I dunno who else here has read it, but it's included in his collection of stories and essays titled Robot Visions. The story is incredible - probably one of the best short stories I've ever read. Like the movie, it tells the story of a robot whose dream is to become human. Unlike the movie, it's not comical at all, and actually very touching at the end. The movie's filth notwithstanding, you shouldn't dismiss the story. Hell, it's by Asimov, it's got to be good.
