02/14/02: Why is everybody so impressed by the Oscars?

Remember an article about it in an old MAD. Remember the 'Academy' is made up of the same suckers who brought you Ishtar (and Jeepers Creepers). The 'Academy' consists of professionals in the filmmaking-business who decided it was a good idea to create some positive pr about their own products. It's like GM deciding to hand awards to her own branches for building good GM cars.

A long time ago, in a galaxy far far away...

PRODUCER #1: 'Damn, I wish there was a way we could get more people to see pay for our products.'

PRODUCER # 2: 'Me too. But let's face it, more people would go to see them if they weren't so crappy.'

PRODUCER #1: 'You know what... We'll invent an awards- system! The best film gets the most 'stars', or whatever!'

PRODUCER #2: 'But what jury would wanna award *any'* 'stars' to one of *our* movies?'

PRODUCER #1: 'Chef's secret... We'll award them *ourselves* to... ourselves!'

PRODUCER #2: 'Brilliant! Know what, I'll award your latest work for 'best picture'!

PRODUCER #1: 'Best picture'... I kinda like the sound of that!'
