The only thing that James Toback was good for was providing funny copy for SPY magazine--they used to run monthly items detailing his pathetic attempts to pick up women by offering to put them in the movies (Toback then accused the editors of SPY of hating sex--despite the serious likelihood they were getting a lot more than he was). In a way, you hafta feel sorry for the fellow--he really hasn't gotten many good reviews since the days he could virtually guarantee them by crawling into bed with Pauline Kael . . .
